Got lar Semi Auto.

Driven one that is Lexus 4x4 before. You can select the gears that you want but its only UP/+ or DOWN/-. Gears depends on the size of the gearbox.

The one AMT in Savvy is about the same. Most big cars like Merc,BMW etc...all have Semi Auto and the gear shif is located either on the steering wheel or gear level.

It also function similar to a M/T but you just do it with a press of the button. The cons side is that you have to remember which gear and how many times you press it and the right gear you are in. There are displays but if you're a slow reader...sorry lar. heheheh..
On the pros side, you don't have to worry car engine died cause forgot to chagne gear cause it auto shif down and you do not have to release your accelerator to change gear and gear shifting is much faster and better.

Waiting for another test drive for that AMT Savvy.

David, it is slighly bigger only.

noname,A/T gearbox is much more heavier than a M/T is because it has more gears, bearings, sensors and also a lot more fluid to lubricate and push the gears. That is where the extra weight comes from.

For M/T there is a central shaft which holds all the gears and shift to engage it. I forgot the terms for it. Will try to get it later cause a bit blur on a Friday already!! TGIF!!! hehehehe

choosing which type of gear SHOULD NOT decide by the DASHBOARD.... this sounds funny to me.

If you can't decide between AT or MT, flip a coin or read here

i think the best decision is still up to you. what you can do is... go to the salesman and ask him to show to you - the different. then u check the meter - between AT and M... see what different. at least it give you confidence and at ease after all.

hello 6009,

so it doesnt matter whether u buy AT/MT... you can see how responsive we are! So make sure u join our TT when u get ur accent.

but sure u will find something wrong here or there (which will be fix or disappear after a couple of visit to the service centre...). unless u r the damn lucky ones!!!

like me and meng, our wheel are full of the "weight" coz our baby shake its bootie when we go faster than 90kph when we first got the car!!! mine now can go up to 140kph (not fast enough for some but more than enough for me)... ya. that was only after 2 visits to service centre!!!

sounded like reasonable but not entirely will happen, i think. MT still plays a very important roll in car industry. major sports car, 4WD, trucks, van and other "performance-sensitive" vehicle will still having MT. not to mention Msian market ppl who like street racing will still get MT over AT.

of course, the argument depends on the target audience of drivers. most of us who been haunted enough by the "great" traffic system would definitely prefer AT. to me, better to have both, when I drive MT during long journey distance is good, especially when cruising through Ipoh hilly places, climbing and gear dragging is good.

cheers! Wink

Same reason for me to get a MT
