I had a chance to test drive the new Suzuki Swift (known as Aerio in US).

Curb weight is about 1400kg with a 1.5cc VVT EFI Engine. Secondary Safety features includes ABS and Airbag. Car alarm requires the driver to press the open button twice to open all doors. 1st press only opens the driver's door and 2nd press opens all doors. Boot is using electronic censor button. The person only have to go to the back and just press the button under the handle.

Handling was very stable and even a pick up was good for the car of above 1,000kb. Good insulation contributed to the additional weight. Felt high because of the seats. During cornering, the understeer and oversteer was very minimal. Uphill momentum was good and when the pickup needed, it was available even how stiff the hill was.

Bridgestone Potenze tires grip was not so good during cornering. Possible that it is from Japan.

Type of spare tire given is those 15" small wheelie type.(similar to those use by honda drivers to replace flat) Max speed recommended on the tire is 80km/h only.

Space wise, front driver is very comfortable and the door opening was big enough. Back door was a bit small and the foot space was a bit small. Getting in and out from the back seat is a bit hard for bigger sized person.
Boot access is very convenient. But the space is smaller. Can't put a lot of things in the boot. If its going to be balik Kampung then some items will have to be put at the back seat.

Just my personal opinion.

Marky
I saw the car on kepong Juso yesterday
I think the curb weight is only 1050Kg insteads of 1400kg for this compact car since I have the specification with me and do not include the ABS and Airbag (have to confirm with u later)
yeah, a lot of advanced electronic button..and is very nice & well build, solid car and the price is RM80K++

Hi slbeh,
The curb weight was confirm by the SA. Its 1400kb and it comes with ABS and Air Bag. ABS steering and front passenger side. That is why the curb is higher and its CBU. CBU international requirement to have ABS and Airbags plus other safety features in a CBU cars.

Code:
The 1.6 litre Suzuki APV, fully imported from Indonesia, is priced at RM59, 888 for the manual transmission, and RM69, 888 for the automatic. Prices are on-the-road, without insurance.

This is a van, in fact, just like the Toyota Avanza... Confused
but the price is directly affect the sales of Avanza and maybe our Hyundai Accent Embarassed

I saw a few of the Suzuki Swift around the kepong area....it is the major competitor for both the Toyota Vios & Honda City now, at the RM80K price range Wink

Suzuki Swift will win the competition cause its CBU and the quality is much better than local assembled City and Vios.
